02 // Surprise Attack on the Road to Fey Ember

Lady Saraphene asks the group to deliver a letter to Mayor Basil of Fey Ember, a nearby City-state renown as a place for adventurers, traders, and scholars. The group accepts the task and departs the next day; the except for Livi who needed to stay back to continue training and Feffle who opted to leave the Fey Wild and return back to the Dalelands. His request is granted, reducing the group to only Chappy, Fert, Scraat, and Smurk.

Contents of the Letter

The party agrees to open and reseal the letter to uncover so details about Lady Saraphene and their situation. Fert looks for the reagents to recreate the seal while the group travels.

Red Caps Attack

Along their travels, the party encounters a pair of Red Caps who had badly wounded a harengon soldier, taking his foot as a trophy. Fert takes to the front with his flower staff while Chappy, Scraat and Smurt fan out to cast spells and fire crossbow bolts. One red cap engages the Fert who attempts to heal the harengon. As Fert heals the harengon back into consciousness, the other Red Cap immediately attacks and knocks our harengon by stabbing his gut. This happens a couple times. Chappy, Scraat and Smurt fell the Red Cap on Fert. Then together they defeat the final Red Cap.

A New Friend and Set of Clues

The harengon shares his gratitude and introduces himself as Lionel Lightfoot, a captain of the Outer Force investigating recent attacks on travelers to Fey Ember. Chappy pleased to make his aquaintance, asks Lionel permission to keep his foot. Lionel obliges, whimsically unaffected by any weirdness associated with the request. He offers to escort the group to the Mayor as token of his thanks.

After searching the Red Caps, they find an onyx shard pendant and crude letter written in goblin describing younger versions of the party memebrs.
